The rapid digital transformation of the Indian banking system has ushered in a new era of efficiency, convenience, and accessibility for customers and financial institutions alike. However, this digital revolution has also exposed the sector to a plethora of virtual threats that significantly jeopardize the security and integrity of banking operations. This comprehensive review examines the various types of virtual threats faced by the Indian banking system, including phishing, malware, ransomware, DDoS attacks, insider threats, identity theft, and advanced persistent threats (APTs). Through the analysis of notable cyber incidents and their impacts, this paper highlights the financial, operational, reputational, and regulatory consequences of these threats.
