Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni Author Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni is an all-round Indian American author, poet, essayist, and educator. She is known for her contribution to diasporic literature. Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni was born on 29 July 1956 in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. Chitra Banerjee name was initially Chitralekha Banerjee. She migrated to the United States after doing odd jobs she then became a famous writer known for portraying women's lives, Indian culture, and diasporic experiences. As a poet, author Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni a powerful portrayal of women's lives, immigration, identity and cultural conflicts. Her higher education in United States later became a prominent voice in south Asian diasporic literature. Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni is now a famous Indian American writer.
