Visualizing the Research Landscape of Perceived Organizational Support: A Bibliometric Study

Abstract

This bibliometric study maps the research landscape of Perceived Organizational Support from 1986 to 2024. A corpus of 2,321 documents retrieved from Scopus was analyzed using performance analysis and science mapping techniques via Biblioshiny and VOSviewer. Findings reveal a sustained surge in scholarly output from 7 publications in 1986 to a peak of 202 in 2024 with nearly 86% (1,990 articles) published between 2006 and 2024, reflecting a strong upward trend (R² = 0.894). Citation analysis recorded the highest average citations in 1986 (AC: 1,093.3) and peak total citations in 2002 (TC: 10,693), alongside an h-index of 41, g-index of 80, and i-10 index of 1,507. Frontiers in Psychology emerged as the most productive outlet (165 articles), while the Journal of Applied Psychology demonstrated the highest citation impact (TC: 31,633). Eisenberger et al. remained the most influential work (TC: 6,073), followed by Rhoades and Eisenberger with the highest citation density (CD: 198.52). The study illuminates the intellectual and social structure of POS research, identifies emerging frontiers such as green perceived organizational support, and offers directions for future inquiry.
